This session equips school leaders with the knowledge and tools to manage emerging risks from synthetic media. Participants will learn how deepfakes are being used in schools, including bullying, sexual abuse, sextortion, misinformation, and AI-generated voice cloning that can be weaponized in phishing or social engineering attacks. They will also gain clarity on the legal landscape, including federal and state laws like the TAKE IT DOWN Act. Finally, leaders will explore the emerging tension between school marketing and deepfake safety as well as the concrete steps schools can take to navigate that tension effectively.
