St. Andrew's Episcopal School seeks an experienced, visionary, and mission-driven Athletic Director to lead its K–12 Athletic Department. The Athletic Director is a full-time educational administrator who reports directly to the Head of School.

The Athletic Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of the School's athletic programs, physical education curriculum, and student wellness initiatives. The position is responsible for fostering a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, character development, and inclusion while ensuring that all athletic and physical education programs reflect and support the mission and values of St. Andrew's Episcopal School.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, organize, supervise, and evaluate a developmentally appropriate PE/athletics program for the entire school, advancing the school’s emphasis on athletics as a core pillar necessary to fulfill the mission of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School.
  • Cultivate in each student an understanding of and commitment to exercise and physical conditioning and health education.
  • Provide direction for best uses of all Athletics Facilities (gymnasiums and fields) for both the SAS community and external leases, with SAS prioritized, in alignment with curriculum and programming, as well as secure requisite human resources to support facilities usage.
  • Ensure that all coaching positions are filled with competent, background-checked, and properly trained coaches who perform their duties with the highest level of professionalism.

 

  • Collaborate with the Head of School and administrative team to recruit, evaluate, and hire athletic department faculty.
  • With the Manager of Human Resources, track and manage the onboarding, paperwork, and training for all coaches. Onboard and train coaches so that they are knowledgeable of St. Andrew’s policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and manage the department budget including the coaching budget for all part-time coaches.
  • Schedule regular meetings with athletic department faculty to evaluate, develop, and implement the scope and sequence of athletic instruction that reflects current pedagogy and physical fitness trends and meets optimal standards of safety.
  • Report athletic achievements for circulation to the school and community at large.
  • Develop and adhere to budgets, manage inventories, and understand each team’s specific financial needs.
  • Schedule all athletic events and coordinate the securing of game officials for all home contests.
  • Oversee the master athletic calendar, including practices, games, and rentals.
  • Oversee all programs’ practice and game schedules.
  • Champion all athletic programs by being present at athletic competitions, supporting the coaches, and promoting our teams and athletes in the community.
  • Represent the school at various state, regional, and national athletic association meetings/conferences.
  • Serve as an ambassador and leader among and between other schools in the SPC.
  • Attend SPC (Southwest Preparatory Conference) seasonal meetings, tournaments, and other conference commitments.
  • Maintain records of team and individual athletic accomplishments.

 

  • Oversee the distribution, collection, storage, cleaning, and repair of all school athletic uniforms.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards students, staff, faculty, and all members of the St. Andrew’s community.
  • Have a successful history of working with young people, be fully committed to the development of a well-rounded student, and have a history of professional interaction patterns with colleagues and parents.
  • Manage coaches as they conduct try-outs and create teams. Counsel as necessary.
  • Be an effective communicator with all of the constituencies within the school community, including the Go Blue booster club, alumni and parents, and especially its student-athletes and coaches.
  • Be involved in the school community at large and serve as an ambassador for Highlander athletics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 5 years of teaching/coaching experience in physical education and/or coaching.
  • At least 3 years of experience as an Athletic Director.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Successful experience and relationships with college recruiters D1 and below.
  • Successful track record working with student-athletes, preferably in independent schools.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach.

 

  • Excellent organizational skills.Detail-oriented and able to work collaboratively with fellow school administrators, coaches, faculty, staff, students, players, alumni, and St. Andrew’s families.
  • High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic environment.
