About St. Mark’s

Founded in 1906, St. Mark's School of Texas is a non-sectarian, college-preparatory, independent day school for boys in grades one through twelve. The School’s charter states that it is “designed to afford its students well-rounded physical, intellectual, moral, and religious training and instruction.” The School is intended to be a diverse community of teachers and students who share a love of learning and who strive for high achievement in whatever they undertake.

St. Mark’s aims to prepare young men to assume leadership and responsibility in a competitive and changing world. To this end, the School professes and upholds certain values. These values include the discipline of postponing immediate gratification in the interests of earning eventual, hard-won satisfaction; the responsibility of defending one’s own ideas, of respecting the views of others, and of accepting the consequences for one’s own actions; and an appreciation for the lively connection between knowledge and responsibility and the obligation to serve.

Position Description

St. Mark’s School of Texas seeks an experienced educator to serve as the Athletic Director beginning in the 2027-2028 school year.  The Athletic Director will assume responsibilities for leading the athletic program across grades 7 – 12 and maintaining the School’s mission-driven philosophy towards athletics that places value on the student-athlete, good sportsmanship, and the competitive spirit.

The Athletic Director will oversee 88 coaching positions, more than 500 annual games and contests, and 45 teams across 16 sports.  During the past two decades, St. Mark’s teams have won 60 Conference Championships, 17 Regional Championships, and 21 State Championships.

In addition to supporting programs, the Athletic Director will supervise, evaluate, and support the coaching staff, most of whom are full-time St. Mark’s faculty members, as well as identify, hire, and train part-time coaches who participate in our athletics program.  The Athletic Director reports to the Associate Headmaster and works closely with the Division Heads and other Department Chairs to think strategically about the School’s overall program.  The Athletic Director is also a member of the Senior Administrative Team.

St. Mark’s is a vibrant learning community, and the ideal candidate will have teaching and coaching experience at the high school or college level as well as leadership experience.  Moreover, candidates should have a passion for working with young people and a desire to be involved in the student experience beyond the athletic arena.

At St. Mark’s, we are deeply committed to character and leadership education for all boys and have developed a program that spans grades 1-12.  Successful candidates will share St. Mark’s belief in the importance of character and leadership development in the lives of adolescents.
