Early Childhood Assistant Teacher
As a Sacred Heart educator, the Early Childhood Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in fostering the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development of young boys within a structured and nurturing learning environment. The Assistant Teacher partners with the Lead Teacher to create and maintain an engaging, developmentally appropriate classroom that promotes curiosity, independence, and a love of learning. Working collaboratively with faculty and parents, the Assistant Teacher contributes to each student’s growth in alignment with the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria and the mission of the school.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities
1. Instructional Support
- Assist the Lead Teacher in delivering developmentally appropriate, play-based, and inquiry-driven instruction.
- Support small group and individual learning activities in literacy, numeracy, language development, and motor skills.
- Reinforce lesson objectives through guided practice, centers, and hands-on activities.
- Provide additional support to students who require differentiated instruction.
- Help prepare instructional materials, learning centers, and classroom resources.
2. Classroom Environment & Supervision
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, and arrival/dismissal.
- Reinforce classroom routines, expectations, and positive behavior strategies.
- Support boys in developing independence, responsibility, and self-regulation skills.
- Ensure classroom organization, cleanliness, and readiness for daily instruction.
3. Social-Emotional Support
- Model respectful communication, patience, and positive conflict resolution.
- Support students in emotional regulation and peer interactions.
- Observe and report behavioral or developmental concerns to the Lead Teacher.
- Provide encouragement that builds confidence and a sense of belonging.
4. Student Monitoring & Documentation
- Assist in observing and documenting student progress and developmental milestones.
- Support preparation of classroom displays, portfolios, and assessment materials.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with school policies.
5. Parent & Community Interaction
- Assist and communicate with parents professionally at all times.
- Communicate routine updates to parents as directed by the Lead Teacher.
- Support school events, parent programs, and early childhood activities.
6. Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Lead Teacher and other early childhood staff.
- Participate in faculty meetings and professional development as required.
- Adhere to all school policies, safety procedures, and accreditation standards.
- Support and model the mission, values, and character expectations of the all-boys school environment aligning with the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Strongly Preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of classroom experience
- Knowledge of and proficiency with technology in today’s 21st Century classroom
