Summary of Position
We are thrilled to announce that St. Michael’s Prep is adding a second section of Pre-K3—a milestone that reflects both the exceptional strength of our early childhood program and our commitment to the future of our school community.
This expansion is a deliberate and strategic decision shaped by several years of research, analysis, and thoughtful planning. Known for its joyful learning environment, nurturing teachers, and commitment to whole-child development, St. Michael’s Prep is seeking a qualified and passionate Early Childhood (Pre-K 3) Teacher with knowledge of Reggio Emilia and Montessori philosophies along with a deep understanding of constructivism and social-emotional learning in order to create a joyful environment where children move from “me” to “we”. Our Pre-K 3 program explores the cultural identities and unique profiles of our students in order to build self and social awareness, educating children who will become empathetic and virtuous leaders who positively impact the world. This is a 10-month, full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits that will begin in August 2026.
Ideal Candidates
The ideal candidate is passionate about working with young children, has a foundational understanding of child development, and possesses a professional and nurturing demeanor. Candidates must be skilled in delivering innovative and creative, cross-curricular instruction that is rooted in inquiry and discovery. Meaningful parent partnerships are central to student success. Parents look to educators to help guide and explore the stages of development and the rapid growth that accompanies early childhood. As such, strong communication skills are required, as frequent parent communication is expected. A collaborative and growth mindset is essential as well.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages and needs of early childhood students
- Experienced in, or willing to develop expertise in, social and emotional learning (Responsive Classroom) and project based learning
- Create a welcoming and inviting classroom environment that fosters a feeling of significance, belonging, and fun for all students
- Manage classroom systems and student behavior to maintain an inclusive, engaging learning environment
- Facilitate the intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth of each child
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure ensure a cohesive and comprehensive educational experience
- Foster a love of learning through play-based and inquiry-based teaching methods
- Teach in a responsive and inclusive manner, establishing clear objectives
- Participate in professional development opportunities to learn and utilize innovative tools and techniques that improve student learning
- Monitor and document student progress, communicating effectively with parents through diverse avenues including weekly newsletters, in person conversations, conferences, phone calls and emails to build strong partnerships and support student growth and development
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned, including supervision during lunch, recess, and carpool duties
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- A collaborative and curious approach to teaching and learning
- A bachelor’s degree required
- At least two years of teaching experience required
- Prior early childhood teaching experience within independent schools is preferred
- Experience working on a team is preferred as this is a collaborative position
