Austin International School is currently seeking an elementary English teacher to engage our young learners in the development of their academic skills in English Language Arts. This position has a start date of August 1st, 2026. This position works on a team of three teachers (English, French, and Spanish).
Our diverse community of nearly 60 nationalities and over 25 home languages provides an international learning environment to nearly 250 students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grades. In addition to regional accreditation by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS), we are the only school in central Texas to be fully accredited by the French Ministry of Education (AEFE).
Teaching at AIS
AIS uses a uniquely designed Seamless Curriculum to teach grade-level content through full immersion in French, English, and Spanish. Teaching at AIS requires adaptability, flexibility, open-mindedness, and a strong desire to collaborate with team members. Inspired by the French philosophy of education, this position aligns with the Common Core State Standards. The Elementary English Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction in English Language Arts that fosters strong literacy skills, critical thinking, and a love of reading and writing. Instruction aligns with Common Core Standards and supports students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver high-quality English Language Arts instruction, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language development
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of multilingual learners and students with varied learning profiles
- Integrate inquiry-based, student-centered teaching practices
- Collaborate with grade-level and specialist teachers to ensure curriculum coherence and alignment
- Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction
Student Support
- Create a nurturing, inclusive classroom environment that supports academic and social-emotional growth
- Support students’ language development in an international and multilingual setting
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students
- Participate in student support meetings and implement accommodations as needed
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with teaching partners, learning support staff, and administrators
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents and caregivers regarding student progress and to address specific student needs
- Participate in team meetings, professional learning communities, and school events
Professional Responsibilities
- Engage in ongoing professional development aligned with school initiatives
- Attend school events as required
- Uphold AIS policies, procedures, and values
- Contribute positively to the school community and culture
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field
- Valid teaching certification issued in the U.S. or abroad
- Have a least three years of experience teaching elementary students
- Strong understanding of literacy development and best practices in ELA instruction
- Be a native-level speaker of English
- Have experience in multicultural classrooms and be internationally-minded
- Enjoy being a member of a team and be highly collaborative
- Successfully pass criminal background checks
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters in Education
- Be proficient in a language other than English
- Experience in an international school or multicultural setting
- Experience working with multilingual learners or English language learners
- Familiarity with inquiry-based, IB, or concept-driven teaching approaches
