Reports to: Middle School Division Head
Position Overview:
A 5th Grade Teacher will facilitate the growth of students in a student-centered, developmentally appropriate environment focusing on research-informed, best practices following a differentiated, balanced approach and curriculum. While developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, and faculty members, the 5th Grade Teacher will recognize and nurture the social- emotional needs of each student.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serves as a primary classroom teacher responsible for establishing classroom management in alignment with TGS Handbook and designing and implementing daily lessons, grading, and feedback.
- Provides academic guidance to students; serves as a student advocate, helping student families respond to specific academic, emotional, and developmental challenges.
- Provides students with a supportive, orderly, and interactive classroom environment supporting the 6Cs.
- Serves as an example to colleagues in manners of classroom management, teaching methods, and school procedures.
- Works collaboratively with the middle school administration, academic departments, and teacher colleagues to implement, deliver, and refine the instructional program.
- Uses differentiated instruction and relevant instructional strategies to meet students’ academic needs.
- Consistently provides a safe and joyful learning environment that builds age-appropriate social skills.
- Communicates with parents, administrators, and counselors concerning the emotional and physical well-being of students within the classroom.
- Maintains regular classroom communication with parents/guardians and students.
- Works cooperatively with administration and department teams to promote and enhance vertical alignment of curriculum, 5 -12th grade.
- Facilitates student participation in Middle School and/or all school special events and activities.
- Implements student-centered assessments and reporting approaches, including maintaining assessment records and writing semester narratives.
- Offers 3 Explorations during each Exploration Friday.
- Assists students with Explorations selections and sign-ups.
- Receptive to professional feedback based on classroom observations, and seeks opportunities for professional development.
- Delivers advisory lessons in accordance with the appropriate programming for the Middle School.
- Performs other tasks and duties as assigned by the Head of School and/or Middle School Division Head.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree with teaching Certification required; Master degree preferred
- High level of professionalism, initiative, integrity, tact, and discretion
- Commitment to the TGS mission and the Six Cs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, in addition to organizational skills.
