River Oaks Baptist School is seeking a dynamic and innovative educator to join our team as a middle school Algebra teacher beginning August 2026.

This position will focus on teaching Algebra IA (7th grade) and/or Algebra IB (8th grade) as part of our two-year Algebra sequence. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching Algebra, a deep understanding of algebraic reasoning and functions, and a passion for helping students develop both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency. Experience teaching Algebra is strongly preferred.

The candidate should be enthusiastic about developing lessons that challenge students to think deeply, solve complex problems, and communicate mathematical reasoning clearly. They should also be interested in exploring Mind, Brain, and Education (MBE) research as it applies to effective math instruction.

This position reports to the Head of Middle School. All middle school faculty are supported by an experienced divisional team devoted to developing both students and faculty, including the Instructional Coaches, Counselor, Learning Specialists, MS Dean of Students, Assistant Head of Middle School, Head of Middle School, Associate Head of School for Student Support and Associate Head of School for Academics.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach up to five classes of middle school mathematics with up to two preps.
  • Serve as an advisor to nine to twelve students in the same grade as your teaching assignment.
  • Sponsor or co-sponsor the middle school math club.
  • Model and guide students in Christ-like values and character development.
  • Employ instructional practices that build conceptual understanding and strengthen student thinking, supported by strategies such as project-based learning, differentiated instruction, and formative assessment.
  • Deliver instruction that incorporates technology intentionally and appropriately to enhance student learning.
  • Embrace lifelong learning and growth mindset for yourself and your students.
  • Participate collaboratively in grade-level, department, division, and all-school team meetings.
  • Support students in their learning.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, energy, initiative, and self-reflection.
  • Motivate and engage students.
  • Delight in teaching children in the middle school years.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 24 hours in math and 12 hours of educational courses OR teaching certification for math and for the grade-level(s) applying.
  • At least two years’ full-time teaching experience.
  • A vibrant Christian faith and a desire to work in a Christian environment.
  • Successful completion of background checks and verification.
