Position Title: Music Teacher

FLSA Classification:  Fall – 2026-2027

Reports To: Adolescent Director

Hours: Part-Time 

 

Position: 

The Post Oak School seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching music education to students in High School and Middle School and appreciation of music instruction. Helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music lessons which include singing, movement, playing/listening to instruments, and performing other duties directly related to this job description.

 

Responsibilities: 

The music teacher is a part-time position responsible for curriculum development and teaching for Middle School and High School students. This role includes: 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Teaches general music to Middle School and High School students including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble
  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students
  • Provides opportunities for music ensembles including band, choir & musicals
  • Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community
  • Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body
  • Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Develops and refines music curriculum based on NAfME’s standards of creating, performing, and responding
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances
  • Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute
  • Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students through pictures and reports via Transparent Classroom
  • Creates differentiated lesson plans in advance for the lower and upper elementary classrooms
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse
  • Collaboration with the Adctor and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings, and seasonal programs 
  • Assist in broader program needs such as carline, conferences, etc.

  • Actively engage in ongoing professional development 
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset concerning new strategies and the consideration of feedback from students, colleagues, and administration 
  • Regularly analyze and adjust curriculum based on community needs and student and colleague feedback
  • Regularly reflect on the impact that our biases may be having on students and their experiences

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BA in Music or Music Education
  • Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels
  • Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment
  • Orff, Kodaly, or Dalcroze training strongly encouraged
