Part-Time School Nurse

Position Summary:
The Part-Time School Nurse is a non-benefits eligible, part-time position reporting to the School Nurse and the Principal. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., excluding school holidays, with the exception of designated “Play at Fay” days and in-service days.

The purpose of the Part-Time School Nurse is to support the health and well-being of students by administering the School’s health policies, procedures, and clinical protocols. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality care and promotes a safe and healthy environment for all students.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Triage students as they present themselves to the School Nurse’s for medical attention.
  • Administers nursing treatment within the bounds of the Texas Nurse Practice Act as needed for students and staff.
  • Documents all visits to clinic.
  • Schedule student appointments with the School Nurse for follow-up care.
  • Follow procedures for reporting accidents and dismissal due to illness/injury.
  • Communicates significant injuries to Principal, Assistant Head of School and Head of School before the end of the school day of the incident.
  • Maintain and prepare charts for the School Nurse.
  • Make all necessary referrals for further medical evaluation, medical care, or follow up care in conjunction with the School Nurse.
  • Be available to students, parents, and faculty to answer questions and assist them in solving problems related to medical issues.
  • Document on student records all pertinent medical information.
  • Administer prescribed medication to students.
  • Perform duties outside the clinic such as carpool duty or forest recess duty during nonpeak clinic hours.
  • Commit to ongoing learning including participating in professional development approved by the Principal.
  • Support the School and its Leadership Team.
  • Serves as a member of the Operations Team.
  • Willing and able to routinely and appropriately use personal smartphone to utilize school apps to communicate, collaborate, and fulfill responsibilities as outlined in this Performance Profile.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and Head of School.

Qualifications:

  • Current RN licensure with State of Texas
  • Proficiency in Magnus Health, Microsoft Office and Teams preferred
  • Ability to enthusiastically work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions including rain, cold, heat, etc. and on various surfaces, some inclined, including grass, dirt, trails, decking, pavement, and concrete.
  • Ability to perform sustained standing and walking, navigating stairs, kneeling, lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs, monitoring children and the immediate environment visibly and audibly and the ability to give audible instructions that can be understood by English speakers in a loud environment.
