Middle School Math Teacher

OVERVIEW 

Founded in 1950, Greenhill School is an independent, coeducational day school enrolling 1410 students in grades pre-kindergarten-12. The school is located on a 78-acre campus approximately 12 miles north of downtown Dallas.

SUMMARY 

The school seeks a talented, enthusiastic, experienced math educator who is comfortable teaching Math in the Middle School grade 5 through Algebra 1.  The position requires faculty to work collaboratively to create and implement a program that is engaging and confidence-building.  The faculty member will join an experienced and talented team that is eager to meld innovative approaches with traditional ones in order to reach each student. 

This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

The school seeks an outstanding educator for Middle School Math, whose duties comprise:

  • Teaching four sections of Middle School Math within the comprehensive math curriculum;
  • Appropriately facilitating both application and project-based math;
  • Creating a classroom environment that promotes the explanation of concepts, collaborative learning, and the use of a variety of resources;
  • The willingness to join collaborative math teams built around courses and grade levels;
  • Serving as a grade level advisor and team member managing all aspects of the grade level experience where the focus is on building character and building community. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have 3-5 years of prior teaching experience with Middle School students;
  • Demonstrate competency with student-centered technology, an interest in advancing and supporting its use to enhance student learning, and the desire to employ technology to connect with students;
  • Have a rich background in the Algebras and algebraic thinking;
  • Collaborate with other members of the math department to ensure a developmentally appropriate, aligned mathematics program;
  • Encourage and support both reluctant mathematicians and advanced mathematical thinkers;
  • Have the ability to support students in their acquisition and development of key process skills related to mathematics;
  • Work to develop a growth mindset and resilience in all math learners;
  • Be enthusiastic about creating student-centered lessons that allow young learners to develop a variety of mathematical strategies;
  • Be motivated to find ways to contribute to the life of the community through Math club, Quiz Bowl, math competitions, etc.;
  • Have the optimism, desire, and positive enthusiasm to work with Middle School students and to partner with their families.
