Upper/Middle School Spanish Teacher

Position Description:

Riverfield Country Day School (RCDS) in Tulsa, OK, seeks a skilled and dynamic Spanish teacher who can teach at any high school or middle school grade level. More specifically, RCDS is seeking an innovative teacher who sees World Languages not only as a study and a discipline, but also as applicable to real world situations. Spanish at RCDS using a TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) approach to teaching.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Create an interactive learning environment that includes creative lessons and assessments;
• Approach learning with a growth mindset, which involves significant feedback from teachers;
• Provide opportunities for students to enter into academic dialogue through lively classroom discussion;
• “Hands-on,” experiential and/or project-based teaching;
• Collaborate to design interdisciplinary experiences and coursework
• Establish regular and effective communication with students and parents;
• Engage in regular professional development and identify growth-based goals;
• Participate in required non-classroom activities including parent/teacher conferences, faculty meetings, special activities, and performance events;
• Foster a confident and collegiate atmosphere within the Upper and Middle Schools, and actively encourage interdisciplinary opportunities with other colleagues.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• B.A./B.S. in Spanish or a related field
• Ability to teach Spanish at any level to grades 6 to 12;
• Passion for subject matter and for working with bright, motivated teenagers in a rigorous, innovative, college-preparatory environment;
• Agility and flexibility to collaborate on cross-disciplinary projects and assignments;
• Successful teaching experience in upper grades or college classroom setting;
• Independent School experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear, traverse the classroom and school building, as well as outdoor areas. There are prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
