Position Description

The Winston School seeks a dynamic and experienced leader in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to serve as the Lester Levy, Sr. Chair of STEM-D2 Education and teacher to begin in the 2026-2027 school year. This individual will be instrumental in building the newly envisioned STEM-D2 program at The Winston School, and shepherding the new program alongside fellow faculty, community partnerships, and exciting opportunities to lead with STEM in learning different education. The Winston School aims to reshape STEM education with a deep focus in design-thinking and differentiation in the classroom.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in science, mathematics, and/or technology and a passion for designing-learning experiences that meet the needs of a diverse group of students while building empathy, community connections, and capacity of students that will carry them to college and beyond in an increasingly complex, technology-driven, globally connected world.  All applicants must have a background working with neurodivergent populations and/or a passion for creating learning opportunities that incorporate multi-modal instruction, differentiated assessment, and inquiry-driven approaches. More, the ideal candidate will embrace the opportunity to lead both on campus and in the thriving, independent school STEM community in Dallas.

This full-time position requires an individual who is capable and confident working alongside students with ADHD, dyslexia/dysgraphia, ASD (Level 1) and other high-incidence, related learning differences in a  high-challenge/high-support environment with skillfully, differentiated instruction.  A Winston teacher is highly collaborative and committed to designing and adapting instruction to meet a range of student learning needs and interests. They are skilled in establishing strong relationships with students and provide effective and consistent communication with parents regarding students’ behaviors, academic concerns, and holistic progress.

Teaching and Leading Responsibilities

  • Design and implement innovative learning experiences reflective of Winston’s mission and aligned with the newly designed STEM-D2 program and curriculum that are tailored to meet diverse student needs and foster a love of learning.
  • Teach a variety of STEM courses, including those already a part of the academic program and new courses developed unique to the STEM-D2 program.
  • Serve as the Lester Levy, Sr. Chair of the STEM-D2 program and collaborate with colleagues, local independent schools, community partners, and surrounding community business and organizations to bolster support, create student experiences, and engage the greater DFW STEM community.
  • Work with Winston teachers to determine skills, knowledge and dispositions necessary for success in STEM and related coursework.
  • Cultivate an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative classroom culture that encourages students to take intellectual risks, be innovative and creative, and develop a growth mindset.
  • Identify, select, modify, and create instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs, in collaboration with Upper School colleagues.
  • Promote a growth mindset and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Perform supervisory duties as assigned, attend and participate in professional learning opportunities, and/or engage in other school-related duties as appropriate.

Qualifications / Experience

Educators with a heart for students who learn differently - someone who believes that every student can thrive when given the right environment, encouragement, and innovation will be prioritized.

 

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a STEM-related field - or other amazing life experience that demonstrates experience and expertise in working with students in the STEM world!
  • Demonstrated experience teaching science, mathematics, engineering, and/or technology at the middle and/or high school level.
  • Background in managing maker-spaces/innovation labs, and incorporating robotics, 3D printing, coding platforms, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing safety and maintenance with tools, machines, and technology in teaching, learning, and innovation spaces.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of CAD Design, laser cutting, welding, CNC tool operation, power/hand tool operation, woodworking tools, coding and computer science, and circuit design.
  • Ideally, the candidate will also have experience with programs such as First LEGO League, BEST/VEX Robotics (or similar), NASA Rover, First Tech Challenge, etc.
  • Be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends with teams of students preparing for and competing in a variety of STEM activities.
  • Must have experience supporting students with learning differences
  • A growth mindset and a passion for continuous learning and innovation.
  • At least three years of experience in STEM education or related fields (e.g. summer camps, industry, educational outreach, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with young people, families, and community members.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment  for all students, as well as, the ability to motivate and inspire
  • An “all-in” mindset, resilience, and commitment to teaching and being a part of a school community beyond the classroom!

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and is accompanied by a generous professional development and travel package to assist in building knowledge, capacity, and network to promote the Winston STEM-Dprogram.
