Math Teacher

Overview

The Mathematics Department at Ursuline Academy strives to develop students’ mathematical analysis and critical thinking skills so that they can confidently pursue their goals and explore diverse fields of interests.  In tandem with developing a strong mathematical foundation is the hope that students will come to value the beauty of mathematics in nature along with the purity of mathematical analysis, so they can provide unbiased context and validation to the challenges they will face in the world. 

The Math Department is seeking a full-time teacher with openness to teaching a range of high school Math courses from Algebra I through Precalculus.

General Authority

Teacher reports to the math department chair who reports to the Director of Teaching and Learning.

Key Accountabilities

• Teach five sections of Math courses
• Serve as an advisor to a group of students
• Engage in on-going professional learning
• Use appropriate technology
• Participate in student life

Responsibilities and Activities

• Develop meaningful and engaging lessons that are responsive to student needs and encourage students to think deeply about their learning
• Collaborate with peer teachers to support a culture of deep learning, model intellectual curiosity, and develop curriculum
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and others in the school community

Position Requirements

• A deep commitment to the mission of Ursuline Academy of Dallas and its Catholic identity
• Readiness to carry out the Catholic Church’s mission of ensuring the formation of students’ faith and intellectual development illumined by Gospel message

• An advanced degree in Mathematics or related field
• The flexibility to teach a variety of high school Math courses and grade levels; willingness to teach Geometry
• An understanding of the importance of cultivating student well-being in girls and creating an inclusive, equitable classroom

• Experience with and openness to technology in the classroom; a forward-looking energy for thoughtful innovation

• At least two years teaching experience in Math at the secondary school level and in-depth knowledge of subject matter; teaching experience in a Catholic and/or independent school and/or all girls’ environment is strongly preferred
• Experience with curriculum development

In addition to the above responsibilities, full-time faculty at Ursuline Academy serve as advisors, actively participate in non-academic student activities such as moderating clubs, chaperoning events, and student supervision, and enthusiastically pursue professional development opportunities as they join a Catholic, independent school culture.
