We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Middle School French Teacher to join our team. The position includes inspiring a love of language learning and global culture while guiding students through a thoughtfully scaffolded program: an exploratory introduction to French in Grade 6 and a two-year French I sequence spanning Grades 7 and 8. The ideal candidate brings energy, creativity, and a passion for working with adolescents, fostering both linguistic proficiency and cultural curiosity.
Enthusiasm for working in a middle school environment, a demonstrated commitment to innovative pedagogy, as well as the ability to thrive in a collaborative community that values creativity and curiosity in the classroom is essential. The ideal candidate will hold a deep passion for their role as a classroom teacher and has an appreciation for and understanding of the middle school years, particularly 12-14 year-olds. The ideal candidate will be invested in helping to create a positive community culture, working closely with their cross-curricular grade level teams, and is aware of the more complex dynamics and unique challenges that come with early adolescence. They will possess a desire to be a supportive role model and help students with increased independence and responsibility.
This individual will create a positive, engaging classroom environment and use innovative teaching methods to support student growth. They will work closely with other colleagues in the middle school and in the Upper School World Language Department to implement a curriculum that meets our accelerated standards while inspiring curiosity and academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Middle School French with a focus on foundational vocabulary, building skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. cultural exposure, and enthusiasm for language learning.
- Serve as an advisor for 8-10 students, and guide and support the wellness program.
- Provide a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation, respect for diverse perspectives, and fosters a growth mindset.
- Assess student progress through a variety of methods and demonstrates the ability and willingness to differentiate instruction.
- Work as a collaborative member of a grade-level and departmental team. Engage in shared middle school responsibilities and duties, including study halls and student supervision.
- Participate in faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences, professional development activities, and divisional activities.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated fluency in French (near-native proficiency preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree in French, Education, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience teaching middle school students or a strong understanding of adolescent development.
- Commitment to communicative and proficiency-based language instruction.
- Strong classroom management skills with a warm, engaging presence.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to continuing education.
- Enthusiasm for working in an independent school community and engaging with families
