The Summer Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students on a designated summer bus route to and from campus. This role supports the School’s summer programming by ensuring reliable, timely, and safe transportation while fostering a welcoming and respectful environment for students. The driver operates a 14-passenger school bus and works collaboratively with Facilities and School staff to support daily operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Transportation & Safety
- Safely operate a 14-passenger school bus along an established summer route
- Transport students to campus in the morning and return them in the afternoon according to the daily schedule
- Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the bus is safe, clean, and in proper working condition
- Follow all traffic laws, school transportation policies, and safety procedures
- Maintain appropriate student supervision and behavior expectations during transport
Communication & Coordination
- Communicate promptly with Facilities or designated school staff regarding delays, route concerns, or vehicle issues
- Maintain a professional, calm, and student-centered presence while interacting with students and families
- Coordinate daily schedules and needs with school staff as required
General Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records related to routes, mileage, or incidents as requested
- Support a positive and inclusive school culture aligned with Bosque School’s mission and values
- Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Bosque School Employee Handbook
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support summer operations
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to safely operate a 14-passenger bus (CDL not required)
- Prior experience driving children or working in a school or youth-serving environment preferred
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and attention to safety
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, and colleagues
- Commitment to working with culturally diverse students and contributing to an inclusive community
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Understanding that safety is as important as job completion; flexibility; ability to work closely with students and staff in caring and supportive style
- Commitment to Bosque School’s mission, core values, and Equity, Community, and Culture Principles and Best Practices for all employees, and the creation of a progressive, student-centered, inquiry-based educational model.
- Excellent communication (oral, written, presentation skills) and interpersonal skills.
