7th Grade History Teacher and Advisor
Phoenix Country Day School seeks a collaborative, student-centered educator to teach 7th Grade U.S. History I and Civics/Government and serve as a 7th grade advisor.
The successful candidate will be a strong teacher of history who engages students in inquiry, discussion, analytical writing, and critical thinking. This teacher will help students build historical understanding and civic awareness while fostering the skills needed for success in 8th Grade U.S. History II. The role reflects the department’s commitment to research, argumentation, civic discourse, and the study of diverse perspectives.
Responsibilities
- Teach 7th Grade U.S. History I, including the Constitution, citizenship, the Bill of Rights, colonial America, the American Revolution, and the development of the United States government.
- Design engaging lessons that promote historical thinking, discussion, and evidence-based analysis.
- Teach and assess reading, writing, research, and critical thinking skills in history.
- Serve as a 7th grade advisor and support students’ academic and social-emotional growth.
- Collaborate with grade-level colleagues, the History Department, and the Middle School faculty.
- Contribute fully to the life of the school.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in history, Education, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience teaching middle school history or social studies.
- Strong background in historical thinking, discussion-based teaching, and analytical writing.
- Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive teaching and student-centered practice.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
