Position Opportunity: Executive Director, Southwest Preparatory Conference

The Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC), an athletic conference of 22 member schools from Texas and Oklahoma, seeks an Executive Director to lead all facets of the organization operationally and strategically. Since its founding in 1952, the SPC has been a national model of spirited competition, camaraderie, and academics-first philosophical alignment. It serves schools accredited by the Independent School Association of the Southwest (ISAS), and the new Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, which is composed of heads of member schools, to carry out SPC by-laws, support student-athletes in grades 9 through 12, and adapt to the ever-changing landscape of independent-school education and athletics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the public face of the Conference and work in close alignment with the Board of Directors and the President of the Athletic Directors.
  • Serve as SPC’s chief strategist, anticipating future challenges and opportunities; cultivating partnerships within and beyond SPC (including other conferences and schools); and furthering the Conference’s founding principles, spirit of competition, like-minded camaraderie, and competitive balance.
  • Work in conjunction with the Athletic Directors on all operational matters, including, but not limited to, scheduling, alignment, seeding for tournament brackets, end-of-season tournaments, travel, and other issues related to the efficient functioning of the organization.
  • Help create a vision of a modern and flexible SPC that aligns with the mission and vision of ISAS and addresses the challenges that each member school faces.
  • Reside in Texas or Oklahoma; attend SPC games and events regularly, often during evenings and weekends; and visit all schools annually to meet with coaches, administrators, and other relevant individuals, fostering relationships with and among these key stakeholders.
  • Attend to all matters relating to the Conference that require executive oversight.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of experience in athletic or academic administration, preferably in the K–12 space
  • Proven excellence as an educator, preferably as a teacher and/or coach in an independent school
  • Excellent communication, particularly as a writer, public speaker, and networker
  • Excellent people skills, diplomacy, and the ability to connect to various, varied constituencies
  • Strong technical experience, confidence with databases, and familiarity with digital and social-media platforms
  • Effective organizational skills, attention to detail, and results-oriented mindset
  • Impeccable integrity and a strong sense of fairness and sportsmanship
  • Collegiality, optimism, and a winning sense of humor

Salary for this position will be in the range of $100,000 to $125,000. While the Executive Director may office at a member school, the position can be heavily remote. Benefits are negotiable, as is the start date before 1 July 2027.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume—as two attached PDFs—to Ms. Anna Silberman by 1 December 2026: asilberman@sjs.org.
