Position Title: Upper School Science Teacher (Physics preferred)

Position Overview:
The Gregory School science teacher will work with upper school students to build their understanding of scientific concepts such as biology, chemistry, and physics. They design lessons, lead experiments, and encourage critical thinking by helping students ask questions and analyze evidence. In addition to teaching content, they assess student progress, provide feedback, and create a classroom environment that supports curiosity, collaboration, and academic growth.

Being part of The Gregory School community includes creating Friday exploration courses and interim week activities that extend learning beyond the classroom curriculum.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and present lessons encouraging students to use critical and analytical thinking skills
- Provide a rich experience of laboratory science, modeling, and other hands-on activities
- Differentiate for different types of learners, accommodating students with specific learning needs
- Make use of many, varied formative assessment tools, including retrieval practice, to judge student progress towards a secure knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply
- Work as an effective team member as part of the Upper School Science Team (and in collaboration with the Middle School Science Team)
- Communicate with parents appropriately as needed
- Utilize effective classroom management skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in teaching, education, and/or science-related field
- A strong academic background in the preferred science
- Knowledge of pedagogy as it applies to that science, including common misconceptions and how to address them
- Prior experience teaching science in upper level grades
- Teacher certification preferred
- Ability to work well with people, especially adolescents
- Strong communication and organizational skills
