Phoenix Country Day School is seeking a faculty member to serve as a long-term substitute teacher in the Upper School English Department for the Spring Semester, January 2026-May 2026. The role involves teaching four sections of classes: one junior-level course and three senior-level, elective courses. Juniors at PCDS are all enrolled in The American Imagination, and seniors take a variety of electives, which are offered based on the expertise and interests of the English Department faculty members. Senior elective courses we seek coverage for are titled Science Fiction and Fantasy, and Contemporary Poetry and Poetics; other course offers may be possible. Ideally, this role will be filled as a full-time position, but consideration will also be given to candidates interested in part-time employment. A successful candidate will have experience teaching English in a rigorous academic environment, preferably at the secondary school level.
We seek candidates who value inclusive classrooms and curricula and who are committed to every student’s learning. PCDS faculty are highly proficient in current pedagogical approaches, dedicated to ongoing professional growth, and enthusiastic about working collaboratively with colleagues. Candidates must also model the qualities that we expect in our students: curiosity, perseverance, compassion, creativity and integrity.
PCDS recognizes the value of a diverse faculty and staff and actively seeks candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds. Highly qualified applicants will hold an advanced degree in English or a closely related field.
