Description

The Kinkaid School is seeking a Pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten Spanish Teacher to join its Lower School starting in August 2026. The Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten Spanish Teacher must embrace and help advance the principles set out in Kinkaid’s mission and core values, Lower School Educational Philosophy, and Portrait of a Teacher. The Kinkaid School is a co-educational non-sectarian day school enrolling 1,500 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the school offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, diverse culture.

 

With an enrollment just above 400 students, the Lower School fosters a learning environment centered on innovation, creativity, and personal attention. Teachers in each grade work as a close-knit team to support each other and collaborate on curriculum development. Teachers are assisted by learning specialists in arts, sciences, reading, music, and physical education and have access to generous resources including material and supplies, state of the art technology and regular professional development seminars, which occur both on and off campus.

 

The Pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten Spanish Teacher will be responsible for providing an engaging language learning experience for students through delivering Spanish instruction that aims to assist students with language acquisition as well as exposure to culture.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide daily Spanish instruction for students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten using developmentally appropriate early childhood methods
  • Design lessons that integrate music, movement, storytelling, games and visual arts to foster natural language acquisition
  • Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to connect Spanish instruction with core curriculum
  • Partner with specialists, support staff, and administration to create a holistic, inclusive learning environment
  • Communicate with parents, counselors and specialists regarding students’ educational objectives and progress
  • Support the School’s mission, vision and core values in all professional interactions
  • Attend regular faculty and staff meetings and serve on committees as required
  • Fulfill weekly/monthly before and after school duties as assigned
  • Additional responsibilities as needed

 

Competencies

  • Proficiency in Spanish, with excellent command of oral and written Spanish and English

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education; Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of three years of experience teaching Spanish at the Lower School level (pre-K through grade 4), preferably at an independent school
