Description
The Kinkaid School is seeking a Lower School Pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten Specialist Assistant Teacher to join its Lower School starting in August 2026. This teacher must embrace and help advance the principles set out in Kinkaid’s mission and core values, Lower School Educational Philosophy, and Portrait of a Teacher. The Kinkaid School is a co-educational non-sectarian day school enrolling 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the school offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, diverse culture.
With an enrollment just above 400 students, the Lower School fosters a learning environment centered on innovation, creativity, and personal attention. Teachers in each grade work as a close-knit team to support each other and collaborate on curriculum development. Teachers are assisted by learning specialists in arts, sciences, reading, music and physical education and have access to generous resources including material and supplies, state of the art technology and regular professional development seminars, which occur both on and off campus.
The primary role of the Lower School Pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten Specialist Assistant Teacher is to support the lead teacher in building and delivering an engaging learning environment in Lower School's Early Childhood Specialist classrooms. The Lower School Pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten Specialist Assistant Teacher is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents, staff, and administration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare for instruction, set up, clean up materials or supplies utilized for the lesson and safeguard all classroom supplies and equipment
- During instruction support students who require scaffolding, modifications, and enrichment
- Lead small group instruction to carry out activities from the classroom lesson plan
- Act as primary substitute teacher to cover lead teacher, as needed
- Partner with lead teacher to plan for yearly and weekly grade-level activities, programs, and field trips
- Maintain anecdotal records in accordance with the established procedures established by the lead teacher and/or administration
- Attend and participate in specialist team meetings, activities, and faculty meetings
- Create and maintain displays of student work
- Fulfill carpool and lunchroom duties, as assigned
- Assist in coordinating or supporting other Specialist disciplines as needed, i.e. performance rehearsals, special projects, and events
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant field
- Minimum of one year of teaching experience with students in early childhood
- Proven ability to nurture and build relationships with students
- Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Collaborative management style and professional work ethic
