Position Summary
St. Luke’s Episcopal School seeks a caring, enthusiastic, and experienced Second Grade Teacher to join our lower school faculty for at least one year and possibly longer. This is a self-contained classroom position, responsible for teaching all core academic subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. The ideal candidate will be passionate about early childhood education, committed to nurturing the whole child, and dedicated to creating a warm and engaging classroom community that supports academic, social, and emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver a developmentally appropriate, integrated curriculum aligned with the school’s mission and current best practices.
  • Teach core subjects including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Foster a love of learning through hands-on activities, differentiated instruction, and creative classroom experiences.
  • Support literacy development through reading and writing workshops, phonics, guided reading, and rich discussions around literature.
  • Use a variety of assessment tools to track student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Promote positive classroom behavior, social-emotional learning, and student responsibility.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families through regular communication and parent partnerships.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teammates, specialists, and support staff to support student success.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Uphold and model the values, mission, and Episcopal identity of St. Luke’s Episcopal School.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Teaching certification and classroom experience, ideally in second or lower elementary grades.
  • Deep knowledge of early childhood literacy, numeracy, and child development.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet a range of learning needs.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Enthusiastic, reflective, and collaborative approach to teaching and learning.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth.
  • An understanding of or appreciation for an Episcopal school environment.
