Lower School Librarian

LOWER SCHOOL LIBRARIAN
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The John Cooper School is seeking a full-time Lower School Librarian (Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth Grade) starting in the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will create a strategic plan for the curation of children’s literature and be well informed of best practices in library management. A successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of diverse voices in children’s literature, cultivate a love of literacy among students, and demonstrate experience partnering with teachers and parents. He/she will also actively promote the Library as an intellectual center that is utilized for student programming, faculty professional learning meetings, and parent presentations.
Lower School teachers report to the Lower School Head and work closely with the Assistant Lower School Head, faculty, support staff, and parents. Lower School teachers must be able to communicate and connect well with both children and adults. A sense of humor, a genuine love for children, and a positive approach to challenging situations are essential in this position.
Job Requirements:
- Willingness to learn and grow as a professional and individual
- Knowledge of current best practices in library science and children’s literature
- Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Strong commitment to students’ progress and success
- Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience preferred
- Master’s degree in Library Science required; An ideal candidate will likely have completed a degreed program in elementary education
