GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
The Motor Development Lab/Primary Physical Education Teacher/Coach helps direct students’ physical activities in an environment that challenges each student to reach his or her fullest potential.
JOB SCOPE
Physical Education teachers work closely with members in the department in creating and implementing the PE curriculum. Collaboration on a day-to-day basis is needed for a successful PE/Athletics program. Physical Education teachers use best judgment for real time decision making during classes, practices, and competitions, striving to align with school and athletics mission statements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops and implements all curricula for Motor Development Lab (student ages 3-6 years) and Primary PE (student ages 5-6 years).
- Keeps records of parent communications and reports the same to the Director
- Maintains updated records of each student’s progress
- Serves as Head/Assistant Coach for sports teams as assigned
- Maintains fields, gymnasium, and equipment
- Works cooperatively with the head of Primary, Primary Guides and Assistants
- Prepares and submits motor development lab observations as requested by classroom guides
- Participates in a regular evaluation process including classroom observations, self-evaluation, and annual goal setting
- Models the behavior described in the Alcuin Standards of Faculty Excellence
- Communicates with parents, administrators, and student support staff concerning the emotional and physical well-being of students
- Creates, implements, and grades Physical Education lesson plans and assessments as needed
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
- Attends community functions as detailed in the Staff Handbook
- Conducts conferences with parents
- Completes State mandated bus driver training and drives bus for trips as assigned
- Travels to out-of-town sporting events for playoff and state competitions as assigned
- Other tasks as assigned by the Head of School or Athletic Director
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Required:
- Ability to provide documents verifying authorization to work in the U.S.
- Must pass Criminal Background Checks and Drug Testing
- Ability to interact and communicate appropriately and professionally with parents, students, and colleagues
- Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2+ years of teaching/coaching experience at K-6 level
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Sports Medicine, or related field

PAY RANGE
Pay is based on experience and is competitive with Independent Schools in the Dallas, Texas, area.
WORK SCHEDULE
Schedule: Generally, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. There may be some evening or weekend work. Holidays, Spring Break off.
JOB CONDITIONS
- Coaches in various weather conditions ensuring safety of students and spectators
- Requires evening and weekend work hours as well as travel for games and competitions
